Diamond Setting - a ‘gem’ of a service from Finnies

Today not all ‘Jewellers’ are what they seem to be. Most are retailers of jewellery bought in from manufacturers, and often made ‘in multiple numbers’ so that you could see another identical piece on that important night out.

Glen Campbell began his career in New Zealand over 20 years ago. His step uncle was a well known diamond setter and Glen served a very thorough four year apprenticeship with him, learning every skill by practice, repetition and critical evaluation.

Having achieved his status as a fully fledged diamond setter Glen met and married his wife (name) in New Zealand. She is an Aberdeen girl who used to live in a flat off George Street visible from Glen’s workshop window today!

They came to settle in Aberdeen in 1999 and Glen applied to Finnies for a position which he gained and holds today. Finnies’ tradition as a ‘Family Jeweller’ has continued with this amazing co-incidence of connections.

Today Glen practices his craft under the watchful eye of Mr RD (Ron) Finnie producing beautiful diamond and gemstone jewellery for customers and for stock.

Ron Finnie has over 30 years experience of buying diamonds and gemstones from all around the world. All diamonds are carefully picked and certificated, and are sourced from India, Russia and Israel - where they are all cut.

Coloured gemstones are bought from Burmah, Brazil and Australia, all direct to Finnies.

All kinds of diamond and gemstone jewellery is made on the premises including rings, pendants, bracelets, earrings, necklets, bangles. Finnies has hundreds of mounts in stock in white, yellow and tri-colour gold and in platignum. These are sourced from Italian, German, Swiss and UK manufacturers.

When you are looking for diamond or gemstone jewellery over 80% of Finnies’ stock is exclusively manufactured in-house, or you can choose the exact setting and stones you want and the piece will be specially made for you - uniquely your own!

Sometimes customers just take in a picture of a piece of jewellery they have seen and ask for it to be made - and Finnies is delighted to help. They have also been asked to add diamonds to existing jewellery, including watch bezels and bracelets, and this too can be done.

Mr Finnie and Glen sum it up between them, saying “If it can be done, we can do it!”

If you think that this specialist service is expensive you will be delighted to hear that it is just the opposite. Because Finnies manufactures their own jewellery there is no ‘middle man’ as with other retail outlets. This means that similar pieces are much less expensive at Finnies, “sometimes saving upto half the showroom cost” says Mr Finnie. “A short while ago a customer requested a diamond ring similar to one which she had seen for £1900. We made it for her with specially selected setting and certificated diamonds for a little over £1000. Needless to say she was delighted, and so were we”.
