The Room at the top of the Stairs

At the rear corner of the jewellery showroom there is a flight of stairs which not everybody notices - look next time you are in. They lead to a room above the showroom which contains the largest collection of Grandfather clocks in Scotland - it is a treasure trove of wonderful time pieces.

But that isn’t all…this room houses a collection of other wonderful treasures such as long case wall clocks, barometers, crystalware and we still stock the legendary Hoggits!

What’s a Hoggit I hear you ask? Well, in short it is a port decanter, so called because it is traditional that after dinner the port is always passed to the person on your left (‘port’ side) and it should not come to rest (or be ‘hogged’) until it reaches your host. So the base of a Hoggit is round and it cannot be put down except on its special wooden base which sits…you’ve guessed…beside the host!

Hoggits make wonderful, thoughtful and memorable gifts like so many things from Finnies - especially in the treasure trove up the stairs!
