A Family Firm...In 1957 when Ron Finnie opened his first watch repair and jewellery shop in St Nicholas Street, Aberdeen, he and his new bride Peggy could hardly have dreamed of the business the family owns and runs today. Peggy says “To stock the original shop we had to sell some of our wedding presents!” Three years later as St Nicholas Street gave way to a major new city centre shopping development Finnies moved to George Street on the corner of John Street, the shop they still occupy to this day.
The business grew as it made its name for a warm ‘family’ welcome for everyone. The jewellery and gift ranges expanded, the watch collection became legendary, and the bespoke jewellery and repair workshop added to their reputation. In 2001, following many years of orderly queues on George Street at Christmas, a major rebuild saw the shop double in size, with separate watch and jewellery showrooms downstairs and special gifts and grandfather clocks upstairs. The jewellery manufacturing and repair and watch repair workshops were also expanded, as was every aspect of the business - including the staff areas.
Now the third generation is also involved with Sarah and Stewart's daughter Dominique learning the jewellery trade and son Declan learning the watch trade from some of the best watch people in the country! But as the next generation takes over there is one thing that will never change… it is the very special warm welcome every customer is given, many of whom are also second and third generation customers of Finnies many of whom have become friends too. So whether you want your first pair of earrings or bespoke diamond jewellery, an everyday fashion watch or a diamond encrusted exclusive time piece, a christening present or a diamond anniversary gift you will be made ‘at home’ in Finnies where our top priority is ‘your happiness’. |

Today the shop is run by the second generation of the family. Sarah (Ron and Peggy’s daughter) and husband Stewart Dawson look after the jewellery side of the business and Matthew Finnie the watches.
